Many people could benefit from learning to manage their anxiety and stress, but this is especially true when faced with a life-changing medical diagnosis such as cancer. Cancer not only affects your body, but it affects your emotions and feelings, as well. Seeking emotional support can help patients and families to better manage cancer and its treatment.
Millennium Physicians is now collaborating with Dr. Missid Ghanem, a therapist with the Life Center: A Healing and Cultural Place, to encourage you psychologically and boost your mental health. The services provided by the Life Center focus on offering you the opportunity for increased self-reflection and understanding. Dr. Ghanem and his team work with you to support your cancer treatment by considering and attending to your thoughts and feelings. Understanding your emotional experience and psychological well-being is very important to the healing process.
The Life Center not only offers assistance to you during this difficult time, but works with family members who may also be affected by your cancer diagnosis and feeling a wide-range of emotions. Sessions are offered to individuals, couples, families and even large support groups. In support group sessions, participants can share feelings and experiences that may seem too difficult to discuss with loved ones. It is often very beneficial for patients to talk to others going through similar experiences; talking with someone who understands you like no one else can, reducing stress, isolation, and often loneliness.
The Life Center services include assessment, psychotherapy, pain management, relaxation, meditation, and mindfulness training. Additional training sessions may be scheduled to learn techniques such as positive visualization, relaxation, and self-hypnosis. The goal of which is to increase comfort, manage stress, enhance confidence, and hope as well as alleviate anxiety and depression.
