November is National Healthy Skin Month

With winter just around the corner, now is the perfect time to evaluate your skin! That’s why we want to recognize that November is National Healthy Skin Month. This month is not focused only on bringing awareness to healthy skincare, but is dedicated to helping people to stay informed on how serious skin conditions can be like psoriasis, eczema and skin cancer.

It is important to conduct monthly self exams for suspicious lesions or moles that could become cancer. If you are concerned with anything on your skin, you should consult with your physician or dermatologist. Your doctor will  advise you about your treatment options in the event you need further treatment. If you are screened and diagnosed with having non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), you now have alternative treatment options.

Millennium Radiation of the Woodlands is now doing a new procedure called Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx) for skin cancer. The new Xoft equipment utilizes an isotope-free miniature X-ray source that delivers high dose radiation directly to the target area. Surgical excision is the most common skin cancer treatment, but in certain patients, this non-surgical treatment can be an ideal alternative, with excellent (>90%) to good cosmetic results.

Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx) offers:

  • A painless, non-invasive alternative to those not able or willing to undergo surgical excision
  • Excellent cosmetic results, particularly in difficult locations such as the eyes, nose, ears, scalp and joints
  • A short course of treatment that allows for immediate return to normal daily activity.
